Bio
About Me:

Hi, I'm Kristen Thaler. I'm 29 years old, female, blissfully married and loving my job (perhaps not too surprisingly, I work in the health benefits shop for my employer). In my free time, I co-run a LARP, hang out with my friends, and read... oh, just about any book that comes into my hands, though I prefer science fiction, fantasy and suspense novels, in general.

About the Blogathon:

I'm participating in the 2007 blogathon to raise funds supporting Project Hope.

Over the course of 24 hours, beginning at 6am on Saturday, July 28th, I will be posting a new blog post every half hour. Because I've never been one to do things by halves, I'll be spending that time researching the various projects that Project Hope has been involved with (and related issues, if I run out of ideas), and providing related resources and links. At least until the sleep deprivation gets to me.

What YOU Can Do:

Show some love, and donate now.

That's right. In return for my complete selflessness (or lack of self-preservation, anyway...) I'm hoping that YOU, the person reading this, will decide to support Project HOPE with some small portion of your time or money. And really, isn't it entertaining enough, watching a bunch of random people try to stay coherent -- despite a gruesome combination of sleep deprivation and hypercaffination -- to make up for the loss one movie or dinner out?

But if you can't afford to contribute cash, please visit their site anyway. Get in touch with the good folks at Project HOPE, and let them know that you appreciate the work they do. Volunteer, if you can make the time. Or just send me some love... I'm sure I'll need it, sometime around 3am on Sunday morning, when the words are tangling each other up and the screen is far too bright.

And if Project HOPE really isn't your thing, please consider visiting one of the other blogathon sites, and contributing to someone else's cause. You can find a whole list of people who are equally motivated to help out a wide variety of causes, at the following link: (Yes, this one, right here).

About Project HOPE:

In their own words:
"Since 1958, Project HOPE has worked to make health care available for people around the globe – especially children. It’s in our name: Health Opportunities for People Everywhere. You may remember our hospital ship that traveled the world. Today our work includes educating health professionals and volunteers, providing medicines and supplies, strengthening health facilities, training community health workers, and fighting communicable diseases such as TB and AIDS."

I chose Project HOPE because I think they strike a good balance between addressing immediate problems and planning for the future. It isn't enough to keep patching the same problems over and over again -- we need to look for lasting solutions resulting in fundamental changes too. The policy work done by Project HOPE through the Project Hope Center for Health Affairs (CHA) is impressive, as is their record of humanitarian aid throughout the world. I think they're pretty awesome.

Show some love, and donate now.
